Florian Langenscheidt studied German literature, journalism and philosophy in Munich and wrote his doctoral thesis on advertising. After intensive seminars on publishing and media in Cambridge and two years working in publishing in New York, he completed an MBA at INSEAD in Fontainebleau near Paris.
For many years, Florian Langenscheidt held senior positions in the Langenscheidt publishing group, including as a member of the executive board of Duden and Brockhaus from 1988 to 2001. He has written books on happiness, optimism, moral courage and gratitude, numerous newspaper and magazine articles and columns on language, media and business (for publications including FAZ, DIE ZEIT, SZ, Max, Capital and FOCUS) and is the editor of the 'Deutsches Markenlexikon' and the 'Lexikon der deutschen Familienunternehmen'. From 1988 to 2001 he was a lecturer at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.
Florian Langenscheidt sits on several advisory boards, supports young companies with advice and capital, and is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Children for a Better World. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Children and Youth Foundation and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Deutsches Museum and the German Academy of Language and Literature. He is a founding member of the BRAND CLUB and spokesman for the Board of Trustees of the German Founder's Award.
He has been awarded the German Cross of Merit and the German Founder's Award for his philanthropic work.
Florian Langenscheidt has five children and lives by a lake in Berlin.
