Scherf is considered a bridge-builder between AI technology and traditional armaments
We are delighted to welcome Dr Gundbert Scherf at the Unternehmertag!
Dr Gundbert Scherf is Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Helsing, a deep-tech security and defence company.
"I believe that democracies are worth protecting, but to do so they need to be able to defend themselves in a new world order," said Helsing in an interview. "New technologies and motivating a new generation for this task are worth the effort."
Scherf is considered a bridge-builder between AI technology and traditional armaments, which has made Helsing the European market leader in military AI. The company already supplies the German armed forces, Ukraine and Eurofighter manufacturer Saab. His ability to combine the traditional defence industry with modern AI technology has made Helsing the European market leader in military AI in just three years. His goal: to keep Europe competitive with innovative defence technology - at least ten times faster than the competition.
His professional mission is to make technology work for our democratic defence and security institutions. As a commissioner in the Federal Ministry of Defence from 2014 to 2026, he strengthened the ‘Cyber and Information Domain Command’, a new military service for the information domain, and the new digital directorate for the BMVg.
In the years prior to founding Helsing, he was a partner at McKinsey & Company, where he was responsible for the aerospace and defence sector and parts of the technology sector.
As a convinced European, Dr Scherf completed graduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge (Marie Curie Fellow), the Free University of Berlin and Sciences Po Paris.
Dr Gundbert Scherf will be speaking on 20 March on the panel ‘The Defence of Europe: Between Clout and Reform Backlog’ and on 21 March at the ‘Mountain Unicorn Summit: Lighthouses for the next Generation?’
